The County of San Diego is currently in the design phase of a new 20,000-square-foot Animal Care Shelter in the City of Santee. The new facility will offer a wide range of services to the community, including dog licensing, lost and found services, adoptions, microchipping, spay/neuter services, vaccination clinics, and educational programs.

The County of San Diego currently operates three animal shelters: in Bonita, San Diego, and Carlsbad. All three shelters are open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., seven days a week.

The County Department of Animal Services provides dog licensing and animal control services for the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. The department also offers a wide range of programs and services that strengthen the human-animal bond, prevent cruelty and neglect, and provide affordable veterinary care to low-income families.
