The involuntary manslaughter case against actor Alec Baldwin was dismissed on Friday after the judge overseeing the case ruled that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence to support the charges.

The case stemmed from the 2021 shooting on the set of the film "Rust," which resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter in February 2023.

The trial began with opening statements on Wednesday, but the case fell apart on Friday when an envelope of ammunition that the prosecution had planned to use as evidence was found to be live. The judge ruled that this created a safety risk and dismissed the case.
